Re: Charging cable

Hi Kai I'm so glad this has worked out well for you, hopefully in time for your Easter break. In researching the cable issue I've learned that charging cables contain an in-built component which signals to the charger what their maximum current capacity is, and this is how your Easee knew to throttl...

Re: Charging cable

You've inadvertently spotted the flaw in my plan. I had forgotten about the 7kW single-phase charger which would need 32A to deliver 7kW (230x32). Since you have a 20A cable the maximum this can safely carry is just over 4kW (230x20), and this is close to what you've calculated. What puzzles me is h...

Re: Charging cable

Hi Kai I'm so glad you like the car. I've had my ID5 getting on 2 years now and absolutely love it. It's great that you can charge mainly from home, as public charger costs have sneaked up over the last 12 months or so. Even still, it's useful to have options when you're away from home. If I've inte...

Re: Fault ( Charging socket is not working)

Almost certainly a visit to the dealer - hopefully under warranty. The charging socket has temperature sensors built in (I believe one for AC and 2 for DC) to protect against overheating, for example in the event of poor electrical contact. It sounds like one of yours has failed. If you're lucky it ...

Re: Charging cable

Hi and welcome, hope the EV journey's going well for you. Charging, cables and plugs can be a bit confusing - hopefully I can shed a bit of light. To avoid TLDR, the summary of what foillows is - CHECK THE CABLE YOU ALREADY HAVE (CAME WITH CAR) AS VW SUPPLIES A 22kW CABLE. YOU CAN USE THIS AT HOME. ...

Re: Software Update 3.2

I'm sure the garage will have done your 3.0 -> 3.2. It's actually classed as a recall, and they will / should have checked your battery health at the same time. Most people report no great changes but I'm on 3.0 and slightly nervous (if it ain't broke...) of what will happen come service time around...

Re: Help with charging

It would be relevant to know what power rating public charger you're using?

If using a <=22kW AC charger it could indicate a fault in the car's on-board 11kW charger.

I'm assuming you've checked for a good physical connection (plug pushed firmly in)?

Re: 2022 ID.4 "could not be fully charged

Hi Al, Problems of this nature can often be related to how good the connection is between charge cable and the car's socket. Early on, I had several instances of this before I realised that I hadn't pushed the plug fully home into the car's charging socket. The charge plug would often be warm to the...
