Yes - that's normal. I think Octopus compensate you for it - or take it into account with the low intelligent charge cost. Remember it's a very small amount of electricity that is transferred during the handshake.

It seems to have no benefit whatsoever. Allegedly the last update added memory of mirror and seat positions (if you have electric seats) to the user profile, which then makes sense.
It would make more sense if the profile tied to the key as well as not blocking use of the app.
