Hello

Due roaming costs, do I switch off the ID4 when riding in Switzerland?

What are eventually the risks,...

Best regards
Mike

Hi Mike, if I understand correctly, the connection that the car uses to connect to its network (i.e. when you start the car and you are asked the question whether to go online or not) is effectively paid for by VW. So when taking the car abroad you can have the car online and that won't cost you a penny.

This is separate to having the the car as a mobile hotspot to access the internet. For that you will need to purchase data which you can do so here https://vw.cubictelecom.com/en. Reading the FAQ, any data plan you buy (from the UK at least) will let you roam across 33 European countries and let you connect up to 8 devices. So if you don't want to roam with your phone's network provider, you can effectively roam instead by connecting to your car's hotspot. At the moment you can get 1GB for free.
