No matter how many months tax you have remaining on your EV, you can apply before the end of March 2025 to get a new 12 months at zero cost. Make sure you go direct to the dvla website and use the details on your V5.
It takes two minutes. It’s 100% legal. It must be done before March 31st to get zero cost.

Apparently it was also covered on the Martin Lewis programme. You have until early March, otherwise it will be free eleven months until March 31st, at which point you have missed the boat.
