Good evening All.
I’m looking at changing My Tiguan for a id4 Life. I’m currently getting 500 miles per tank costs £85 to fill. How much of a saving would i make? I drive 300-400 miles per week
Kind regards
Marc
New to electric car is it worth it?
Electricity prices will take a jump on 1st April as the new price cap takes effect. So using these figures based on my experience the costs will be :
500/3.1 = 161 kWh ( 3.1 miles/kW is my present overall consumption - this should improve as the weather warms up). Using my new tariff of 28p per kWh come April the total cost would be around £45.
Using an Octopus plus tariff of 7.5p per kWh then you would pay just £12.
Other considerations will be if you do a lot of high speed motorway driving then the 3.1 figure I have used will be lower (increases costs). If you charge a lot using chargers away from home then you will pay more. However, there are still some free chargers around if you look for them.

52 x 19 = 100% charge from empty, but how often will you be empty, and how often would you deliberately go over 80% charge?
I have ordered the same car and I calculate, from April 1st, 8p per mile based on assumed urban driving at legal speed with cabin at 18 degrees.
So mostly guess work, but based on others real world.

Thank you for your reply. I’ve ordered same car & colour
So £9.98 to fully charge. That’s quite good. I can top up at work for free so should work out a good saving.
The max rage is just over 200 I believe? Is if fair to say it will be averaging 160miles per charge?

Based on other people’s experiences, 200+ is ideal world, conditions and journey. Plus the industry recommends the majority of charges only reach 80% to optimise battery life. Occasional 100%, for longer journeys, are inevitable and necessary. To be clear, all electric cars have this constraint. Real world, with 100% charge, and depending on all the variables including how loud you have the radio, it could be 160-200 miles.Marcharry wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 5:28 am Thank you for your reply. However, and eventually answering your point, you are better charging from say 40% up to 80% on very regular basis as a routine. This is our plan. Our car is now two days overdue. I hope to test my theory very, very soon.
My logic being: with fuel on tap why would you leave your vehicle near empty if you had an unexpected crisis to attend overnight/next day?
Finally, remember the benefits of no congestion charge, no road tax, reduced service charges, residual vales as ICE goes extinct and ……your contribution to the planet.
You know it makes sense ….

Doing that sort of mileage a week on a 52kw, what's your commute like?
Motorway or A roads? Distance?

Just got fully comp insurance, with no claims protection, for two retired drivers doing 5000 miles per annum for just less than £200 pa.
Cheaper than our [brilliant] new Honda CRV was for sure so another solid reason why EV is a good choice.
