Rear window shattered

Has anyone had a rear window spontaneously shatter? Mine did last month and it’s been a real pain to claim for and I am unsure of cause. Auto windscreen guy said either and attempted break in or a failed rear wiper mount was the cause. Vw refused to accept it was the rear wiper mount. One example in the US but nothing else out there so maybe just unlucky
