Hello!

Newbies here with our first electric car. We had the Nissan Ariya on order and waited over a year only to have the vehicle delivered, and went into dealership to view and select collection date to find out they had completely messed up our paper work which led to us withdrawing from the sale... But led us to our 2021 iD4 1st edition which we collected last week.

So far, enjoyed the vehicle, however would love some tips for long journeys, as I make a commute from South Wales to Scotland and back every other weekend.

Our first trip was this weekend and with the cold weather needed the heating on to keep the side windows demisted, however noticed this dramatically reduced the milage, does anyone have any tips to help keeping the windows clearer without having to hit the milage badly? With the commute being such a regular occurrence, and with two young children I'd like to try anything to avoid the children being cold, and having to charge constantly.

Thanks in advance !

Just to add, if there are any specific modes yous recommend for long journeys we would appreciate it! Currently have it in eco mode, but if you suggest a better mode to use as it is mostly motorway that would be great. Thanks again!

Hi Morain

Glad you're all enjoying your ID4 1st Ed. I presume this is 77kWh battery?

You don't say from where in Wales or to where in Scotland, but your journey should be easily doable with just a couple of charging ( / bladder / McDonalds) stops and no need to be over miserly with the heating. Here's an example:-

Swansea to Stafford is 171 miles. There's a 350kW Ionity at Stafford, perhaps a half hour stop? On to Gretna for another 350kW Ionity, that's another 175 miles. From Gretna you should even get to Inverness on a full charge.

You mention misting problems, and a couple of things are worth checking, since misting really shouldn't be a problem:

The air con is best left switched on at all times to keep the air fresh and condensation down. Some folk switch off the a/c to save power, but with no air flow the car will mist up quickly. Just like your thermostat at home, it's best to find a comfortable temp, say 20°C and let the a/c do its thing.

If misting really is a big issue and you're needing extra heating to keep it down, check the cabin pollen filter doesn't need changing, and check for any water ingress into the car (wet carpets?).

Off-gassing from the car's interior causes the build-up of a greasy film on the inside of the glass over time, and this can exacerbate misting problems. Make sure the glass is sparkly at all times. I use HG window cleaner and a microfibre cloth.

Finally, charge up to 100% for the start of your trip, and pre-condition the cabin temp before you leave.

Hope this is of some use...
